Tokayev: Kazakhstan should be independent from neighboring countries in obtaining electricity

Kazakhstan in the future should ensure its independence from neighboring countries in obtaining electricity, President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said, Report informs citing TASS.

“The issue of energy security also needs to be addressed. In this area, as far as possible, one should rely on its own resources. The key role is assigned to the electricity sector. In the next five years, new energy capacities of at least 14 GW will be introduced. Kazakhstan, in principle, should not import electricity, be dependent on neighboring countries. What is happening now is unacceptable from all points of view, primarily from the point of view of state security,” he noted.
