"On January 14 in the morning, the hunting supervision department received a report about a tiger attack on a person in the Dalnerechensky municipal district, near the village of Zimniki. Hunting supervision and police officers promptly arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, the information was confirmed - a human body and tiger tracks were found at the site," said Philip Shutov, deputy minister of forestry, environmental protection, wildlife and natural resources of the region.
The causes of the animal's aggressive behavior are currently being investigated.
The day before, Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako reported that the number of tiger appearances near populated areas had increased in the region, with cases of attacks on domestic animals and livestock.
"According to specialists, the reason is a sharp decline in the wild boar population due to African swine fever epidemic. Under these conditions, tigers are searching for food by entering populated areas," stated the head of the region.
