Tbilisi residents protest against rising fuel prices

Several hundred residents of Tbilisi took to Republic Square to protest against rising fuel prices, Report informs with reference to TASS.

"Gasoline costs more than 4 laris ($1.2). This is a disaster. Our rally is apolitical, but at the same time with political demands. Economic reforms are needed to lower fuel prices. It is impossible to live like this," one of the protesters Amiran Mosulishvili said.

As a way out of the current situation, the protesters propose to the government to reduce the excise tax, which is 500 lari (more than $155) for 1 ton of gasoline, 400 lari (about $125) for diesel, and 200 lari (over $62) for 1,000 cubic meters for gas. The protesters are marching along Rustaveli Avenue, located next to the square, and demand a meeting with the country's leadership.

Fuel prices in Georgia began to rise in autumn 2021. While earlier the price for 1 liter of AI 92 gasoline averaged 3 lari ($0.9), now it reaches 3.8 lari ($1.18). The price of AI 98 gasoline fluctuated around 3.2 lari (about $1). At the moment it exceeds 4 lari ($1.25)
