Tbilisi, Kyiv discussing appointment of new Ukrainian envoy to Georgia

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Georgia and Ukraine are discussing appointing a new Ukrainian ambassador to Tbilisi, Ukraine’s Charge d’Affaires in Georgia Andrii Kasianov said, Report informs citing TASS.

“The issue of appointing a new ambassador is on the agenda of the two countries. This issue was also raised at an informal meeting of the foreign ministers of Ukraine and Georgia in Prague (August 31), as well as in the GUAM format (September 21),” Kasianov said.

Tension in relations between Kyiv and Tbilisi emerged after Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili announced on February 25 that he did not plan to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, explaining this by national interests. In early March, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the recall of the Ukrainian ambassador from Tbilisi, Ihor Dolhov, “for the immoral position” of the Georgian authorities on the issue of sanctions and for preventing of the dispatch of volunteers to Ukraine.
