Direct negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia are not excluded, Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan said, Report informs via Sputnik Armenia.
Simonyan noted that any country that tries to mediate in the peace process has its own interests.
“You shouldn’t need to be romantic and think that, for example, the French love us for our beautiful eyes and history, but other people don’t love us - these are fairy tales. Interests either coincide or don’t,” he said.
According to him, all countries seeking to influence Azerbaijan and Armenia will try to act as “good” mediators, but both Yerevan and Baku must independently resolve their issues so as not to become a bargaining chip in the game of others.
“I do not rule out that direct negotiations can also take place, because we had positive experience (for example, the return of 32 military personnel)... But, of course, the international community is also an important point,” noted the speaker of the Armenian parliament.
