Germany, the Netherlands, and the UK have temporarily suspended the operation of their consulates in Istanbul due to the threat of terror attacks, Report informs.
The missions of the Netherlands and the UK referred to the “increased threat of terror attacks” in areas of Istanbul popular among tourists and intend to provide services online due to the increased terrorist threat in the city center.
The closure was announced by the press service of the German diplomatic mission on the official website.
“The German Consulate General in Istanbul today, February 1, will be closed for security reasons. All visa and passport procedures have been suspended,” the statement said.
Earlier, the US consulate issued a warning about the increased threat of terrorist attacks in the city. Particular vigilance should be observed in the business part of Istanbul - the Sisli and Mecidiyekoy districts.
