Serdar Berdimuhammedov: In case of my victory, Turkmenistan will continue neutrality policy

The son of the incumbent president, a candidate from the ruling Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, said that if he wins the presidential election, the republic will maintain a neutral status, Report informs referring to TASS.

“If I am given great confidence, I will, of course, continue the neutral foreign policy of our country,” Berdimuhammedov said.

He stressed that Turkmenistan is a peace-loving state, the expansion of friendly, good neighborly relations is one of the foundations of foreign policy. He added that another priority of Ashgabat is to strengthen partnership with international organizations, primarily the UN.

On March 12, early presidential elections are held in Turkmenistan. Nine candidates are running for the presidency of the republic. Polling stations will close at 7 p.m. (GMT+5).
