Serdar Berdimuhamedov sworn in as Turkmen president

Serdar Berdimuhamedov has taken office as president of Turkmenistan, Report informs, citing the Turkmen state news agency TDH.

"Today, in the capital of Turkmenistan, in the Palace of Ruhyet (Spirituality), a solemn ceremony of inauguration of the newly-elected president of the country was held," the message says.

In accordance with the law, deputies of both chambers of the Turkmen parliament, members of the government, representatives of military and law-enforcement agencies, the Central Election Commission, local authorities, the public, and other invited persons took part in the inauguration ceremony of the new president.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov was sworn in, he was presented with a certificate of the president. Now he has officially become the president of Turkmenistan for the next seven years.

Early presidential elections in Turkmenistan were held on March 12 with the participation of nine contenders for the highest state post. Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Berdimuhamedov won the election with 72.97%.
