Saakashvili’s trial on embezzlement of state funds to continue

The judge of the Tbilisi City Court Badri Kochlamazashvili has appointed another trial of the ex-President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili, accused of embezzling state funds worth more than $2.7 million, for December 2, former Georgian leader’s lawyer Dmitry Sadzaglishvili told TASS, Report informs.

“The judge appointed the next court hearing on the case of embezzlement of state funds for December 2. We still don’t know whether the Special Penitentiary Service will bring Saakashvili to court,” Sadzaglishvili said.

The lawyer noted that the judge refused to conduct trials of Saakashvili on this case in prison, contrary to the proposal of the Ministry of Justice.

On November 10, the court held a trial on the case of the violent dispersal of the opposition rally on November 7, 2007, and the destruction of the office of the Imedi TV company, of which Saakashvili is also being accused. The Special Penitentiary Service then also refused to transfer him to court for security reasons.
