Saakashvili's lawyer talks about plans to release him from prison

Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili's lawyer Beka Basilaia said his team wanted to release the former president from prison through a pardon, demanding by public pressure on the government, Report informs.

The lawyer claimed that the case against the former head of state was raised for political reasons, and the release of the former president would be a political issue.

"In any case, Misha Saakashvili is the founder of the new Georgian state. Democracies see him as a politician, and EU lawmakers and US senators meet him," the lawyer stressed.

According to Basilaia, the West will have to react very sharply to such persecution, and the Georgian authorities will release the former president from prison.
