Russia preparing proposal to attract new citizens to military service

Russia is preparing a proposal for mandatory military service for natives of Central Asia who received Russian citizenship less than 10 years ago. The proposals will be prepared within a week, they will be sent to the Security Council of the Russian Federation, the State Duma, as well as the leadership of the presidential administration, member of the Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights under the President of the Russian Federation Kirill Kabanov said, Report informs referring to Russian media.

He said that this applies to people from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. He proposed to deprive them of their citizenship for refusing to serve, and to take the same decision in relation to their relatives.

He proposes that new Russian citizens be required to serve for a year. From his post on Telegram, it is not clear whether mobilization is meant. But, according to him, the proposal is being prepared “within the framework of the partial mobilization announced by the President of the Russian Federation.”

Refusal to perform military duty should entail the deprivation of Russian citizenship not only for the person liable for military service, but also for members of his family, he added.

Kabanov considers such an initiative “an adequate response to the official ban on the part of the authorities of the above countries on the participation of their citizens in the special military operation on a voluntary basis, for which they face criminal punishment in their homeland.”
