Russia loses main part of tanker fleet, which supplied oil bypassing sanctions

By the beginning of July 2023, Russia had lost the main part of the tanker fleet of India’s Gatik Ship Management, which was used to transport oil to other countries, Report informs referring to Bloomberg citing that the company has four vessels left.

An Indian firm helping Moscow ship crude oil under international sanctions had a fleet of 42 tankers in April, according to information obtained from the international maritime database Equasis.

However, by July the number was down by 38 vessels amid loss of access to vehicle insurance as the company violated the $60 per barrel oil price ceiling set by the West.

The publication indicated that despite the loss of most of the ships, the remaining ones are still transporting oil from Russia. The four vessels are under the control of various foreign firms whose origin is unknown.
