Russia emphasizes growing importance of Caspian Region in new Eurasian security architecture

The importance of the Caspian region in the context of shaping a new architecture of Eurasian security is increasing, according to Mikhail Petrakov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the delimitation and demarcation of the state border of the Russian Federation with neighboring CIS countries and Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Report informs.

"In today's world, where regional agendas and processes come to the fore, the Caspian region takes on a special significance, including in the context of forming a new architecture of Eurasian security, which Russian President Vladimir Putin recently spoke about in his speech at the Russian Foreign Ministry," Petrakov said at the International Municipal Forum of BRICS countries.

He noted that Caspian issues are in the focus of attention of the presidents of the five Caspian states, who meet regularly. "At these meetings [Caspian Summit], the entire spectrum of ties is discussed, and an understanding has been reached among the five coastal states on the need for comprehensive development of areas of cooperation in the Caspian in order to ensure peace, friendship, good neighborliness, cooperation and prosperity of its peoples in the region," he emphasized.

"Moreover, these are not political slogans, but real goals, because they reflect the real needs of our five states, and it is the five Caspian countries that have exclusive competence in resolving issues related to the Caspian Sea," the diplomat added.
