Russia bypasses Iran in number of COVID-19 cases

Russia confirmed 6,411 new coronavirus infections Tuesday, bringing the country’s official number of cases to 93,558 and marking a new one-day record increase, Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

Russia is now the eighth most-affected country in terms of infections, having surpassed China and Iran this week.

Thus, Russia bypassed Iran, where 91,472 cases of coronavirus were registered."Over the past 24 hours, Russia has recorded 6 411 confirmed COVID-19 cases in 83 regions, including 2 609 (40.7%) actively as contact and without clinical manifestations," the report says.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in China's Wuhan, the causative agent of which is a new type of coronavirus officially named COVID-19.

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus a pandemic.
