Roman Gurevich: Azerbaijan is an island of security and prosperity in difficult region

Azerbaijan seeks to develop and have good relations with its neighbor, Roman Gurevich, a polytechnologist, honorary ambassador of the World Jewish Agency Sohnut in Azerbaijan, said on the air of the Israeli Channel 9, according to Report.

"Azerbaijan has difficult relations with Iran, naturally with Armenia after these 30 years of occupation. Azerbaijan is the very island of stability that strives for economic prosperity and partnership. And this does not come out of weakness - the Azerbaijani army has shown its strength, power," said Roman Gurevich.

Commenting on reports about the plans to open an Azerbaijani embassy in Israel, Gurevich assessed this as a very positive moment, since Azerbaijan is a close friend and strategic partner of Israel.

"Our good relations are the way to solving conflicts. Friendly ties and strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and Israel serve stability in the region, and do not target anyone," he said. Moreover, Gurevich stressed, that both Israel and Azerbaijan are able to protect their national interests, "there can be no doubt."

Speaking about his recent trip to Azerbaijan, to the territories of the country liberated after 30 years of occupation, Gurevich noted that there is not a single surviving house there and everything is littered with mines. Commenting on the video footage of the destruction, he noted that this is all that remains of the once flourishing villages, vineyards - the scorched earth.

“I traveled all over Karabakh, I was in Shusha, Zangilan and other places. Firstly, you cannot walk freely there as mines are everywhere. You can try to erase the memory of another people to whom this land belongs, you can hate your neighbors for some reason” , said the political strategist, "But what happened here ... is systematic work, ... stupid business," he said. According to him, the houses with all their contents were sold to Iran. Gurevich said he was told that the then refugees traveled to Iran and found their furniture and things on the markets.

During the TV program, Gurevich also established direct communication with the protesting Azerbaijani environmentalists and activists on the Shusha-Khankandi road near the post of Russian peacekeepers temporarily stationed in the territory of Azerbaijan in Karabakh.

One of them, Adnan Hussein, said that there is no confrontation with the Russian peacekeepers and that Azerbaijani activists demand the opportunity to monitor gold and copper deposits illegally exploited by the Armenian side.

"There are no conflicts with the peacekeepers, there are no provocations either from our side or from their side," he said.
