Political scientist: US politics - diplomatic "schizophrenia", or insidious plan

Joe Biden's decision to recognize the "Armenian genocide" will negatively affect US-Turkish relations, Russian political scientist, Director of the Institute for Political Studies Sergey Markov told Report’s Russian Service.

“Thus, it will indirectly affect relations between Washington and Baku. However, it is too early to draw any conclusions. Yet, we can assume that further there will be a wave of the "Armenian genocide" recognition by other US allies. This is the main problem for Turkey,” Sergey Markov said.

According to the expert, US policy is often contradictory and even incomprehensible:

“This is either diplomatic schizophrenia or a cunning insidious plan. We observe the same in relation to Russia. The United States expresses its desire to work on the development of bilateral relations, and then immediately announces new sanctions.”

Sergey Markov is convinced that Biden's firm decision was lobbied by the Armenian diaspora. The expert believes that the recognition of the "genocide" will help the Armenian diasporas to sue in various countries:

“In the near future, Turkey will face serious problems that will arise due to the large number of lawsuits. Any actions in relation to Armenia will largely be shaped on the basis that Turkey will become the major culprit in these bad relations.”

Commenting on the further development of events, the political scientist noted that there will be no retaliatory measures from Turkey.

“The Turks will simply draw conclusions for themselves about the reliability of the United States as a strategic partner,” he concluded.
