Georgia can propose the creation of a new cooperation platform for the peaceful South Caucasus with the participation of the three countries of the region, Georgian political scientist Vakhtang Maisaya told Report.
He said that the participation of the leaders of the three countries of the region at the panel of the Munich Conference, dedicated to the topic of building security in the South Caucasus, is a historic moment. “This indicates the possibility of a new format of cooperation,” he said.
In his opinion, this is a very important step that will have a positive impact on regional security.
“The preparation of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia is just around the corner. The parties have actually acknowledged that they are ready to sign such an agreement. I think that the Georgian side can propose the creation of a new platform for cooperation in the peaceful Caucasus based on the three states of the South Caucasus,” he suggested.
The political scientist stressed that in this context the role of the Zangazur Corridor is growing even more.
“There is already a common geo-economic basis for cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia. I think that the Zangazur Corridor will also increase the development potential of the Middle Corridor, which will link China with the European Union and vice versa,” he said.
