Peskov: Russia to be represented at upcoming Istanbul meeting through Foreign Ministry

Russia will be represented at the upcoming meeting with the US in Istanbul through the Foreign Ministry, Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists at a briefing, Report informs via Russian media.

"On our part, this will be through the Foreign Ministry. Accordingly, expect information from our colleagues from the Foreign Ministry," he said.

Referring to the new strategic offensive arms treaty (START) between Russia and the United States, he noted that it is difficult to imagine negotiations on this issue now. That's because the very fact of the start of negotiations on strategic security and arms control implies a certain level of bilateral relations, a certain level of mutual trust, he added.

"This is something that still needs to be restored if there is the corresponding political will of the two presidents," Peskov noted.
