Pashinyan’s opponents burst into government building

A crowd of opponents of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan broke into a government building in the center of Yerevan, Report informs, referring to RIA Novosti.

There are offices of several ministries in the building. Oppositionists held a rally in the lobby on the ground floor, urging employees of departments not to participate in the rally of Pashinyan’s supporters. Shouting slogans demanding the resignation of the head of the Cabinet, they left the building.

"We are completing our rally. Our goal was to show that we can enter any ministry," said one of the participants.

The political crisis worsened after the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces on Feb. 25 demanded the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, saying that the political leadership is leading the state to a dangerous brink.

In response, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called it a coup attempt and urged the citizens to gather in Republic Square to ‘defend the revolution.’

He also said that he had signed a decision to remove the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces Onik Gasparyan from his post. However, President Armen Sarkissian didn’t sign this document and sent a statement to the prime minister’s office with objections. Meanwhile, the head of government resent the document to the president.
