Pashinyan: Ready for personal meeting with Azerbaijani president, prefer direct talks with Baku

Armenia prefers to hold direct talks with Azerbaijan to normalize relations. At the same time, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his readiness to meet personally with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

Pashinyan made the remark during an online press conference on August 31, Report informs referring to Russian and Armenian media.

“I am ready to meet [with the president of Azerbaijan] in this format,” the Armenian prime minister said at a press conference.

According to the Armenian prime minister, the bilateral format of work on a peace treaty between the two countries, which is currently being carried out, is effective.

"We highly appreciate the assistance of all our international partners in the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Work with Azerbaijan has been carried out in a bilateral format for a long time. This format has shown a certain effectiveness," Pashinyan said at a press conference.

"I told Russian President Vladimir Putin about this directly and sincerely during the last telephone conversation," he noted.

Pashinyan mentioned yesterday's signing of the Regulation on the joint activities of the Armenian and Azerbaijani border delimitation commissions and said that they should focus in this direction.

At the same time, Nikol Pashinyan noted that he does not rule out other, multilateral formats.
