Pakistani envoy: Withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan led to humanitarian disaster

The withdrawal of international troops from Afghanistan has led to a large-scale economic and humanitarian disaster, Pakistani Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bilal Hayee said, Report informs.

The ambassador has called for immediate international assistance to the people of Afghanistan before the situation in that country gets worse: “It is a collective responsibility to help the people of Afghanistan not die of poverty and hunger.”

Hayee noted that Pakistan has provided humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in the form of medicines and food for $30 million, and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) also provides assistance to Afghanistan through Pakistan.

The Pakistani ambassador added that the acute humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan will be the main topic of discussion of the upcoming extraordinary meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries on December 19 in Islamabad, in which Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov will also take part.
