Over 5 years, EU allocated 11 times more funds to Georgian agencies than NGOs

In 2019-2024, EU funding for Georgian ministries and state institutions amounted to 517 million euros, which is 11 times more than the funds allocated to civil society organizations, according to the website of the EU Delegation to Georgia, Report informs referring to Georgian media.

The largest beneficiaries were such government institutions as the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure/Local Government - 111.55 million euros, the Ministry of Finance - 101.40 million euros, the Ministry of Defense - 62.75 million euros, the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and departments - 57 million euros etc.

During this period, 46.1 million euros were provided to civil society organizations for 47 projects implemented by more than 170 civil society organizations operating in various sectors throughout Georgia. More than two-thirds of this amount was intended to provide assistance to the country's population and provide access to services in such areas as vocational education, entrepreneurship, social services, youth engagement and community development, culture, and environmental activities.
