Death toll in Russian strikes on Poltava climbs to 47

The death toll resulting from the Russian strike on Poltava has increased to 47 people, the wife of the Ukrainian president, Olena Zelenska said on social media.

"My deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured as a result of Russian missile attacks on Poltava. This is an incredible tragedy for all of Ukraine. The enemy hit an educational institution and a hospital," she said adding that 47 died and 206 were wounded in the attacks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy revealed that Russia's two ballistic missiles struck a telecommunications institute and a hospital in the city of Poltava, resulting in the loss of 41 lives and leaving more than 180 people injured.

According to Zelenskyy's statement on his Telegram channel, one of the buildings of the telecommunications institute was partially destroyed, trapping people under the rubble.

"I have ordered a full and prompt investigation into all the circumstances of the incident," Zelenskyy wrote.
