Oil refinery workers join protests in Iran

Massive anti-government protests continue in Iran, which began a month ago after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained by the morality police because of what the police called the 'inappropriate wearing of hijab.' The protesters have already been joined by employees of the country's largest oil refinery in Abadan, Report informs via with reference to various media outlets.

Earlier, employees of large oil refineries in Bushehr, Damavand and Eseluye joined the strike. More than a thousand oil workers took part in the protest, blocking local roads and chanting "Death to the dictator".

"The time has come for mass protests. Get ready for general strikes. This is just the beginning of the journey, we will continue our daily protests with the people," the local workers' committee said in a statement.

Iranian authorities say the protests of oil workers are caused by disagreement over labor contracts, but the workers disagree with this. The Iranian central government claims that the protests in the country were inspired by the US and Israeli authorities, who do not like "a strong and independent Iran."
