Moscow says Russia, Ukraine agreed on joint protection of Chernobyl NPP

Russia and Ukraine reached an agreement on joint security of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a briefing, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.

"The Russian military took control of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant so as not to harm its safety. An agreement was reached with the military personnel of the Ukrainian branch of the plant's security battalion on joint security of its power units and the sarcophagus," Zakharova said at a briefing.

"We intend to continue to make every effort to (ensure) the security of this facility," she said.
