Moldovans fighting on Russian side in Ukraine to be stripped of citizenship

Moldovan citizens who fight on Russia's side in the Ukrainian war will be deprived of their citizenship, Moldovan President Maia Sandu said at a briefing held on September 26 after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council, Report informs.

"There is a risk of mobilization of Moldovan citizens in the eastern regions of the republic. In order to prevent such actions, we are analyzing the possibility of revoking the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova from persons with citizenship of the Russian Federation who will fight on the side of the aggressor. We are also studying the possibility of stricter punishment for Moldovan citizens who want to be mercenaries," she noted.
