Minister: Georgia’s opening of land borders may create difficulties

Georgia’s opening of land borders will depend primarily on the epidemiological situation in neighboring countries, Minister of Health of the country Ekaterine Tikaradze said in the parliament during her speech in the format of “ministerial hour,” the Georgian bureau of Report informs.

She said that the creation of density in the border zone can cause a number of difficulties: “If it turns out that a citizen is infected with the coronavirus, in this case, he or she can be returned to his or her country. But if this person is not a resident of the country of entry to Georgia, in this case the difficulties will increase even more.”

The minister said that changes are needed in insurance legislation: “We will most likely require compulsory health insurance from foreigners who come to the country. With the insurance, the tourist will be guaranteed reimbursement of medical expenses in case of infection with coronavirus.”
