Matviyenko: Russia hopes for signing of peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia

Russia hopes for the conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko said at a meeting of the Council of the CIS Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, Report informs, citing Russian media.

"We very much hope that this situation will end with a peace treaty, we sincerely wish this," Matvienko said, commenting on the statements of the speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Sahiba Gafarova and the speaker of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan regarding a possible peace treaty.

It should be noted that on November 10, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a statement on a complete cessation of fire and all hostilities in the conflict zone, ending the lost-lasting Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. According to the statement, Aghdam, Kalbajar, and Lachin regions were returned to Azerbaijan without a fight.
