Lukashenko registers as candidate for presidential election

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus announced on Monday that Alexander Lukashenko, the current President of Belarus, has officially been approved as a candidate for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for January 26, 2025, Report informs via Baha News.

The CEC confirmed that Lukashenko's candidacy garnered 2,518,145 voter signatures deemed valid, far exceeding the minimum requirement of 100,000 signatures necessary for a candidate to be eligible for the presidential race.

This election marks Lukashenko's seventh campaign for the presidency. In the last election held in 2020, he secured a victory by winning 80.1% of the votes cast.
