Lavrov: Transition to Plan B under JCPOA will lead to open conflict

The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on Iran's nuclear program has no alternatives, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with Russian media.

Report informs that, according to him, any speculation on Plan B instead of restoring the deal is irresponsible and fraught with escalation.

"Life has proven that the JCPOA has no reasonable alternative. We consider it irresponsible to speculate on the notorious 'Plan B' and other unacceptable options," he said, adding that the transition to Plan B will lead to "escalation, an arms race, open conflict with irreversible consequences."

Lavrov pointed out that earlier the Russian side put forward the concept of ensuring collective security in the Persian Gulf zone for the long-term normalization of the situation around Iran. He stressed that at the moment it is under their consideration.
