Lavrov says initiative of creating 3+3 format discussed with Iran

"In terms of the situation developing around the South Caucasus, we have discussed creating the 3+3 format, which would include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Iran, Russia, and Turkey," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

Report's Russian bureau informs that Lavrov spoke at a press conference after the meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

"The Iranian side is positive regarding this initiative, we observe the same attitude in Azerbaijan and Turkey, and we are working with our Armenian colleagues. We hope that despite all the problems it is facing, Georgia will see its profound interest in creating such a mechanism of consultations on the accelerated development of the region, which has long been curbing its growth due to existing conflicts," the Russian foreign minister said.

He said they are against increasing military activeness here [in the region].

"There are concerns that Azerbaijan voices regarding the training our Iranian friends held in the vicinity of the border," Lavrov said.
