Lavrov: Armenia wants to establish direct contact with Türkiye

Armenia wants to establish direct contact with Türkiye to normalize relations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told a press conference on the results of the 3+3 South Caucasus Regional Cooperation Platform in Istanbul, Report informs.

Lavrov emphasized that the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Ankara is in any case linked to the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations. Therefore, it was proposed to discuss these issues comprehensively at the meeting and encourage the participating countries to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

The Russian top diplomat also noted that previously Russia and Iran had assisted in initiating the negotiation process between Armenia and Türkiye, but currently no meetings are planned.

"Our Armenian colleagues have taken a break. They believe that now it is necessary to establish direct communication with the Turkish side and understand what needs to be done," the Russian foreign minister said.
