State of emergency in Kyrgyzstan’s Batken province

A state of emergency has been introduced in the Batken province of Kyrgyzstan, bordering with Tajikistan, due to increased shelling by the Tajik military, Report informs citing the Kyrgyz media.

The move was made in connection with the use of weapons in the border areas of the Kyrgyz Republic with Tajikistan, Batken province, in order to establish peace in the region, ensure the safety of citizens in the conflict centers, carry out work on the evacuation and resettlement of the population, prevent deaths and mobilize appropriate forces, according to the country’s Ministry of Emergency Situations.

The Tajik side is firing mortars at the Dostuk village, according to the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Report informs citing Sputnik-Kyrgyzstan.

Fire was opened from three mortar crews. The Border Service says that shelling continues, despite earlier agreements.

The units of the Border Guard Service stationed in the Batken province repulse the attack of the enemy.

Head of the State Committee for National Security Kamchybek Tashiev and his Tajik counterpart Saimumin Yatimov agreed on a ceasefire along the entire border line from 16:00 (GMT+5) on September 16. Corresponding commissions of the two countries were created. In the evening, the Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic reported that the Tajik servicemen violated the agreements and opened fire.

On the night of September 17, it became known about the death of 24 Kyrgyz citizens during the conflict, and the number of victims rose to 103.
