Kuleba proposes holding international summit for new security guarantees

Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba is proposing to hold a summit of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council (USA, UK, France, Russia, China) and Ukraine, Germany, and Turkey.

Report informs, referring to UNIAN that the summit is necessary for the formation of new security guarantees and discussion of the issue of de-escalation of the situation aggravated by Russia's actions.

Kuleba said this following the meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers in Brussels, the press service of the Foreign Ministry informs.

In particular, according to the minister, Ukraine considers it the best format for conducting a discussion on de-escalation and the formation of new security guarantees.

"Regarding a possible summit between the presidents of the USA and Russian, Ukraine welcomes any diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing the development of the conflict. At the same time, we believe that the most optimal format for discussing de-escalation and the formation of new security guarantees is to hold a summit in the format of five permanent members of UN Security Council plus Ukraine, Germany and Turkey," Kuleba said.

The minister added that this format is optimal for discussing what is happening along the border of Ukraine.

"The security of Ukraine is now the number one priority. We use everything, the smallest diplomatic opportunity to guarantee it," he stressed and added that he was leaving Brussels for Washington to continue diplomatic efforts to curb Russia's aggressive intentions against Ukraine.
