Kobakhidze calls US, EU decision to freeze funding for Georgia regrettable

The decision by the US and the EU to suspend defense funds to Georgia is regrettable because it doesn't meet the country's expectations for a reset in relations, Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze said at today’s government meeting, Report informs referring to Georgian media.

In his opinion, these relations really need a reset, which the Georgian side is ready for.

"I would like to respond to the decision of the United States and the European Union to suspend the allocation of funds in the field of defense. This decision is regrettable because it does not live up to our expectations regarding the reset of relations. I must emphasize again that in light of the political events of the last four years, these relations really need a reset. The Georgian side, our government, the state are ready for this from beginning to end and we are waiting for the next steps,” he noted.

Kobakhidze expressed hope that pragmatic, rational steps will be taken in the future that will contribute to the resumption of relations between the US and Georgia.
