Armenia seeks to establish peace with Azerbaijan and believes that all existing and potential difficulties can be resolved at the negotiating table, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan said at a joint press conference with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on March 31 in Yerevan, Report informs referring to Armenian media.
The Armenian president was touching upon the prospects of signing a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan.
"We are consistent in our work related to the signing of a peace agreement. We have the task of establishing peace in the region and specifically with Azerbaijan, and we are working hard to achieve this goal. We believe that the difficulties that exist and will exist are surmountable, and any issue can be resolved at the negotiating table," the president added.
Khachaturyan also said that "the time of wars and conflicts has passed, and there are no more resources for new wars in the South Caucasus."
"We have been in a state of war since 1988, and on a larger scale since 1991. I am not talking about other conflicts in our region... Optimism is based on realism: we are realists and we are taking steps that do not distance our approaches with Azerbaijan, but on the contrary, bring them closer. We will continue in the same spirit and we are also confident that this day will come, because many didn't even expect that the differences that existed within this agreement would be removed, but in March it turned out that this is possible," the Armenian president said, noting that the parties now have a ready document on the table.
