Iran to take retaliatory measures against EU

Iran will retaliate against the EU in connection with new sanctions against a number of Iranian officials and organizations, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said, Report informs referring to Tasnim.

“The Islamic Republic will soon announce its mutual sanctions in response to the recent EU bans,” he said.

On February 20, the EU expanded personal sanctions against individuals and organizations in Iran that are involved in the suppression of protests in this country. Iranian Minister of Culture Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, who was involved in threats against artists who do not support the policy of the authorities, was included in the sanctions list. Also, on the list was Education Minister Yousef Nouri, who is accused of harassing students.

In addition, the UK government has expanded its sanctions list on Iran with eight more names.

According to Iranian media, EU restrictive measures are currently being applied to a total of 196 individuals and 33 entities, including an asset freeze, an EU travel ban, and a ban on providing funds or economic resources to individuals on the sanctions list.
