Iran to elect its 8th president tomorrow

Iran will hold its 13th presidential election tomorrow.

Today is a day of silence in the country, Report informs, citing the Mehr news agency.

Due to COVID-19, the voting will be held with social distance and hygienic measures.

Voting will start at 07.00 and end at 00.00. If necessary, the Supreme Election Organization may extend the process until 02.00 on June 19.

According to the report, there are 59,310,307 voters in Iran. This year, 1,392,148 people will vote for the first time.

According to unofficial data, 3.5 million voters will vote abroad.

This year the number of presidential candidates has dropped to four. Mohsen Mehralizadeh, Alireza Zakani, and Saeed Jalili withdrew their candidacies.

Candidates for the 8th president of Iran are Chairman of the Court Ebrahim Raisi, former commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Secretary-General of the Advisory Council Mohsen Rezaee, MP Amir Hossein Hadizadeh-Hashemi, former director of the Central Bank Abdolnaser Hemmati.

Preliminary results will be made public on June 19.
