Iran and Egypt are set to open their embassies reciprocally in the near future, Mehdi Sanaei, Deputy for Political Affairs of the Iranian Presidency Office, said, Report informs via ISNA.

Speaking about the participation of the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Masoud Pezeshkian, in the 11th summit of the D8 Organization for Economic Cooperation in Cairo, Egypt, Sanaei expressed hope that the diplomatic efforts will lead to the reopening of embassies in both countries.

Diplomatic relations between Iran and Egypt were severed after the February 1979 revolution. This was primarily due to Cairo granting asylum to Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi and signing the Camp David peace agreement.
