IAEA: Withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine nuke plants should be considered differently

“The issue of the withdrawal of the Russian military from the territories of the Chernobyl and Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plants should be considered at different levels, in particular, at the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia,” Head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi said at a meeting with employees of the South Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plant, Report informs citing UNIAN.

He expressed hope for a speedy cessation of hostilities: “Of course, we hope that the moment of the ceasefire is already close, and the negotiations that are taking place between Ukraine and Russia will contribute to peace,” Grossi said.

The IAEA director-general also noted that during his visit to Ukraine he would discuss issues of support and assistance to the country with Ukrainian officials.

“You should know that representatives of many countries have approached us with offers to provide support through our organization,” he added.

Ukraine Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko during a meeting with Grossi said that Ukraine demands to block the activities of Russian representatives in the IAEA. The minister also stressed that the IAEA should limit the access of Russian employees to data on Ukrainian nuclear power plants.
