IAEA head starts consultations with Ukraine, Russia on buffer zone around Zaporizhzhia NPP

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi has begun consultations with Russia and Ukraine on the creation of a nuclear and physical security buffer zone around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Report informs referring to TASS.

“You know that at a briefing for the UN Security Council a few days ago, I proposed urgently establishing a nuclear and physical security buffer zone around the power plant. I began consultations on this topic with both sides. Of course, with Ukraine <...>. And also with Russia, an indispensable partner in the negotiations, as they control the facility,” Grossi said at a press conference.

He added that the shelling of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant continues, and the reactors and facilities for storing spent fuel are under threat.
