Head of Armenia’s Anti-Corruption Committee to call ex-heads of Supreme Judicial Council

The investigating authorities will hold a confrontation with the participation of two former chairmen of the Supreme Judicial Council (SCJ) of Armenia Gagik Jangiran and Ruben Vardazaran, Report informs referring to Zhoghovurd newspaper.

Head of the Anti-Corruption Committee (former Special Investigation Service) Sasun Khachatryan intends to organize a face-to-face confrontation. The story is connected with criminal proceedings based on a scandalous recording of a conversation between two officials. The case was dismissed by the Investigative Committee on December 8, 2022, but on January 10 it became known that the investigation had been resumed by the decision of the Deputy Prosecutor General.

During last year’s press conference, Vardazaran published a recording of his conversation with Jangiran, thereby shedding light on a number of episodes related to pressure on the judiciary. During the conversation, Jangiran persuades his interlocutor, Vardazaran, to "leave in an amicable way", that is, to leave his post under guarantees that in the future he won’t be threatened with criminal prosecution.

Obscene language was used in the conversation. After that, a criminal case was initiated, but the Investigative Committee did not recognize Vardazaran as the injured party, no one was involved as an accused.
