Guterres proposes to create UN-Russia-Ukraine contact group on humanitarian issues

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has proposed to the Russian authorities to create a contact group in the UN-Russia-Ukraine format to ensure humanitarian corridors in Ukraine, Report informs.

Guterres voiced this proposal at a briefing following the talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“Humanitarian corridors that are safe and efficient are needed: corridors that are respected by all for the evacuation of civilians and the delivery of the necessary assistance. To this end, I proposed the creation of a contact group on humanitarian issues that would bring together the UN, Russia and Ukraine to looking for opportunities, opening safe corridors,” Guterres said.

He noted that the UN is ready to mobilize its forces to help the residents of the affected Mariupol, as well as to provide support in the evacuation of everyone from the city. He noted that in Mariupol the world faced a crisis within a crisis.
