German FM calls for new sanctions against Russia

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has called for new sanctions against Russia following the incident with damage to the EstLink 2 cable between Finland and Estonia, Report informs.

Baerbock made the statement in an interview with Funke media group publications.

"New EU sanctions must follow," she said. Baerbock also called for strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure and increasing investments in national defense.

"Together with our NATO partners, we are discussing how to better secure the Baltic Sea from hybrid threats," she added.

The EstLink 2 power transmission line between Finland and Estonia was disconnected on December 25.
