Georgian president pardons eight convicts

The President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, has pardoned eight convicts, Report informs, citing the presidential administration.

Report informs via Georgian media that six convicts, including one woman, have been completely released from serving their sentences in penitentiary institutions. Two others had their remaining prison terms reduced, including one woman.

Earlier, on November 9, the President of Georgia pardoned 11 more prisoners.

The right to pardon is a discretionary power of the President of Georgia. The decision is made directly by the president based on recommendations from the presidential pardon commission, as well as on the basis of the convict's own petition and court verdict.
