Georgian President: Georgian people will not understand second rejection of EU candidate status

“The Georgian people will not understand a second rejection of the EU candidate status and will feel abandoned by Europe in such a difficult situation,” Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili told a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, Report informs via Civil Georgia.

“President Zurabishvili discussed with the German Foreign Minister the issues related to the European integration process of Georgia. As the President stated at the meeting held in the Orbelian Palace, ‘the Georgian people will not understand a second rejection of the EU candidate status and will feel abandoned by Europe in such a difficult situation’. The President emphasized the importance of the visit of the Foreign Minister of Georgia’s partner country as an expression of Germany’s continued support for Georgia’s independence and European integration,” the Georgian President’s Press Service said.

The German Foreign Minister said that “the place of the Georgian people is in Europe”.
