Georgian politician expresses gratitude to Azerbaijani president for support

Political scientist Vato Shakarishvili has extended his thanks to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, calling him a "great friend of Georgia," for his support and fair assessment of the European Commission and its President Ursula von der Leyen.

Speaking to Report, Shakarishvili criticized the European Union (EU) and its leaders for their inability to accept the independent policies pursued by sovereign states like Georgia and Azerbaijan. He remarked: "Von der Leyen and the European bureaucracy have become so enraged that they’ve forgotten geography, turning themselves into objects of ridicule worldwide."

The political scientist accused European bureaucracy of interfering in attempts to overthrow Georgia's democratically elected government and replace it with their own network of agents. He noted: "Georgia has faced immense pressure and unfair treatment, with EU ministers, deputies, and officials directly participating in anti-Georgian revolutionary processes. Mass riots and violent actions by destructive groups were financed through European funds and member state budgets."

Despite these challenges, Shakarishvili emphasized Georgia's resilience: "The 'Deep State' and European bureaucracy failed to achieve their goals. Georgia preserved its sovereignty, maintained peace, and continued rapid economic development. Von der Leyen’s attempts to ignore Georgia’s role in the Middle Corridor and transport connectivity only highlight the political bias of the current EU leadership."

Shakarishvili underscored the sovereignty of Georgia and Azerbaijan, stating that their governments prioritize the interests of their people and refuse to comply with the directives of the "Deep State" or EU bureaucracy. He added: "Georgia and Azerbaijan are committed to fostering peace in the South Caucasus and creating an environment of cooperation and partnership. This will strengthen the region's position in the new world order, despite the harmful actions of Ursula von der Leyen and other corrupt bureaucrats."

On April 9, at an international forum themed “Facing the New World Order” held at ADA University, President Ilham Aliyev said that the EU's attempts to interfere in Georgia's internal affairs are a manifestation of a colonial approach and are unacceptable.

“This is unfair, and the attitude towards Georgia's internal process in the European Commission is absolutely unacceptable. This is the behavior of colonialists. They try to look at the will of the Georgian people through the principles of a colonial past. This is absolutely unacceptable, and the people of Georgia know that we are with them, and the government of Georgia knows. The internal issues of Georgia must be resolved by the Georgian people, not by bureaucrats from Brussels. So, with respect to all that, we need to strengthen our partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan,” the president said.
