Georgian MFA responds to France over protest rallies

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia responded to the statement of the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs regarding the protests in Tbilisi, Report informs.

Tbilisi accused the French Foreign Ministry of bias.

The statement noted that Georgia has the highest level of freedom of assembly and expression. However, certain groups have carried out large-scale violence against government buildings and law enforcement agencies.

"We would like to respond to the statement of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the reaction of law enforcement agencies to mass gatherings in Tbilisi. Free assembly and freedom of expression are ensured at the highest level in Georgia. Although violent groups affiliated with the political opposition and financed from abroad have carried out large-scale violence against government buildings and law enforcement agencies, Georgia's law enforcement agencies have acted in accordance with the highest human rights standards, with the exception of a few unfortunate incidents.

"We invite you to closely follow the events in Georgia. However, we regret the lack of objectivity in your statement," the Georgian MFA emphasized.
