Georgian Electoral Assembly elects Mikheil Kavelashvili as President

At the sitting of the Central Election Commission (CEC), the Electoral Assembly elected Mikheil Kavelashvili as Georgia’s Sixth President through non-direct rule for the first time, Report informs via Georgian Public Broadcaster.

From the 225 ballots, 224 members voted for Mikheil Kavelashvili, and 1 ballot cast by Ada Marshania, a representative from the quota of the Abkhazian Supreme Council, was declared null and void.

The CEC Chairman Giorgi Kalandarishvili presented the summary protocol to society.

The president will serve a term of five years. The inauguration of the new president will take place on December 29.
