Georgia posts significant rise in cases related to deportation of illegal migrants

The number of illegal migrants deported from Georgia in 2024 increased by 26% compared to the previous year, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said, Report informs, citing Georgia News.

As of October 2024, decisions were made to forcibly remove 384 foreign citizens from the country, which is 26% more than the previous year.

The number of foreigners who agreed to leave the country voluntarily after the deportation process began has also increased. Between January and October, 323 people left Georgia, which represents 60.7% of last year's total figure.

In October alone, the Georgian Migration Department made decisions to expel 60 foreigners who were staying in the country without legal grounds.

According to the Georgian MIA, 190 foreigners were expelled from Georgia in 2023, and 165 in 2022. The ministry emphasized that control over illegal migrants will be further tightened in the future.
